Turkey, Bodrum: historical review

HISTORY

Turkey has got the complicated and honor role in mankind history.

If we begin from the stone century, it was the beginning of many civilizations and there were more 2.500 settlements on its territory. Tore, palaces and ancient muslin temples white snow statues of Rome and the remains of Byzantine cultures - all is here in Turkey.

Greek people came Anatoliya in XIV-XII centuries before Jesus Christ. They settled on the Western Coasts and developed the trades and sales.

Then one of the famous leader - Alexandr Makedonskiyin 334 b.c. ruined the Persian power and after him Rome led here till 3d century b.c. The division of Rome Empire made it the capital of its eastern part Constantinople, now Istanbul, in 570-622 Mahomet began to spread Islam and represented the saint book Koran.

Osman Empire began the whole epoch. Istanbul was jointed it in 1453. In 1520-1566 it conquered the big territory in Africa

Then it was the period of Russian-Turkish Wars. 1908-1910 is the strange time. The First World War was the end of Empire. The Republic was announced in 1923.

The capital of Turkey is Ankara, the first President is Mustafa Kemal Ataturk. If you visit Turkey, you can understand how they respect the personality of this person. You can see the his monuments and his portraits everywhere. Turkish people consider him as one of the greatest politicians in the world.

Halikarnas is the modern Bodrum, it has got the rich historical background. During the antic times Halikarnas was including in Dory League. After Persian conquering the Small Asia in VI century b.c., the city became the capital of Tsar, Persian representative.

The famous citizen of Halikarnas was the antic historic Herodotus who left the evidences in 480 b.c. the leader Kari Artemisia I liquidated Rodos fleet. In 350 b.c the magnificent tomb of Tsar Mavsole was built here and considered as one of the seven world miracles. Mausoleum attracts the travelers not only by its measures (50 meter high), but also its sculptures of people and animals from the white marble. Alexander Great conquered this city 20 years later after Mavzol death.

In 1402 this city was under the power of the Knights of Order of St. Ion, coming from Malta, the Mausoleum of Mavzol was partly ruined by the earthquake. The marble and granite blocks are used by knights for the construction of fortress - St Peter (1494-1522) which is standing in Bodrum now and which is the city symbol and the sculptures which were the decoration of the Mausoleum are in British Museum now. There is the Museum of underwater archeology in fortress now.

Today it's the dynamic developed charming resort became the favorite place of tourist resting and source of inspiration of many representatives of Turkish and European Bohemia.
